When No Heat Is an Emergency
Some heating problems can wait for a scheduled visit. These can’t:
- No heat at all when it's cold outside
- Indoor temperature dropping steadily even though the system is running
- Pipes at risk of freezing, or a room with plumbing that's going cold
- A boiler that's leaking, hissing, or showing pressure well outside its normal range
- An oil burner that keeps locking out after you press reset
- Burning smell, smoke, or scorch marks near the furnace or boiler
- Loud banging or booming from the system when it tries to start
- No heat with infants, elderly family members, or anyone with a medical condition at home
If any of these sound familiar, call us now at (978) 452-2766.
Safety First: Gas Smell or Carbon Monoxide Alarm
If you smell gas or your carbon monoxide alarm goes off, leave the house immediately. Don’t flip light switches or use your phone inside. Once you’re outside, call 911 or your gas utility’s emergency line. After the fire department or utility has made the home safe, call Caron and we’ll repair the system that caused the problem.
What to Do While You Wait
A few safe checks can sometimes get your heat back, or keep the house from getting colder:
- Check the thermostat — set to Heat, above room temperature, with fresh batteries if it uses them.
- Check the breaker and the furnace power switch (it often looks like a light switch near the furnace). Reset a breaker once; if it trips again, leave it off and call us.
- Check the furnace filter — a badly clogged filter can make a furnace overheat and shut itself off.
- Oil heat? Check the tank gauge. If it's empty, call your oil delivery company — a system that ran out of oil usually needs a technician to restart it.
- Press the oil burner reset button only once. Pressing it repeatedly can flood the combustion chamber with oil.
- Keep the cold out — close doors to unused rooms and open cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls so warm air reaches the pipes.
Still no heat? Call (978) 452-2766 or text 978-216-0555 and we’ll take it from there.

Frequently Asked Questions — Emergency Heating Repair
My furnace won't turn on. What should I check first?
Check that the thermostat is set to Heat and above room temperature, the breaker and furnace power switch are on, and the filter isn’t clogged. If those are fine and there’s still no heat, call us. The cause is usually an ignition, sensor, or control problem that needs a technician.
How fast can you get here for a no-heat call?
We treat no-heat calls as a priority and give you an honest ETA when you call. Call (978) 452-2766 or text 978-216-0555 as early as you can for the fastest response.
Do you repair oil heat in an emergency?
Yes. We repair oil furnaces, oil boilers, and oil burners, and we can restart a system that ran out of oil once your delivery arrives. Oil heat is one of our specialties.
Should I keep pressing the reset button on my oil burner?
No. Press it once. If the burner locks out again, stop and call us. Repeated resets can flood the chamber with oil and make the repair bigger and more expensive.
What should I do if my pipes are at risk of freezing?
Keep interior doors open so warm air circulates, open cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls, and let a faucet drip. Then call us to get the heat back on as quickly as possible.
Do you work on systems another company installed?
Yes. We repair all major brands and systems regardless of who installed them.
