Mass Save® 2026 Rebates: What Massachusetts Homeowners Can Claim Right Now
The 2026 Mass Save® rebates are live. If you are replacing a heating or cooling system this year, the incentives below are what you can actually claim — and the amount depends on how the heat pump is used in your home, not just what you install.
Here is the current picture, plus the two dates that matter.
2026 Mass Save® Heat Pump Rebates
Whole-Home Rebate
- $2,650 per ton, up to $8,500
- For heat pumps that become the sole source of heating and cooling for your home
Partial-Home Rebate
- $1,125 per ton, up to $8,500
- For heat pumps that work alongside an existing heating system
- Two bonuses can be added on top:
- $500 weatherization bonus — complete a Home Energy Assessment and the recommended weatherization within one year before, or six months after, your installation
- $500 sizing bonus — install heat pumps sized to meet your home’s full heating load
Basic Rebate
- $250 per ton, up to $2,500
Rebates are calculated on equipment size, so the right system for your home decides the number. We will size it and tell you which tier you land in before you commit.
Income-Based Enhanced Incentives
If your household qualifies on income, Mass Save® offers considerably more — up to $16,000, or a no-cost installation through Turnkey Services. It is worth asking. Plenty of homeowners assume they will not qualify and never check.
0% HEAT Loan Financing
Mass Save® still offers the 0% interest HEAT Loan:
- Up to $25,000 toward qualified improvements
- Multi-year terms
- Zero interest
Used alongside a rebate, this is what usually makes the difference between “someday” and this year.
What Happened to the Federal Tax Credit
Straight answer: it is gone. The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (Section 25C) — the one worth up to $2,000 on a qualifying heat pump — ended for any system placed in service after December 31, 2025.
If your system was installed in 2025, you may still be able to claim it on that tax year’s return. Ask your tax preparer. For anything installed in 2026, plan on the Mass Save® rebates and the HEAT Loan being your savings, and treat anything else as a bonus.
The Two Dates That Matter in 2026
- Equipment must be installed between January 1 and December 31, 2026
- Your rebate paperwork must be received by February 28, 2027
Installation schedules tighten through the autumn, so the practical deadline is earlier than the official one. If you want this done on 2026 rebates, start the conversation now rather than in December.
Replacing an Existing Heat Pump?
You may still qualify for a rebate and for 0% financing even if you are replacing an older heat pump that is no longer performing. The rules here are fiddlier than for a first-time install — let us check your specific system rather than assuming you are out.
